It’s almost time! USS Texas will soon set sail again for a new life thanks to the support of people like you, Captains.
The battleship has undergone constant repairs on site for years at a high cost. Over $54 million has been spent to keep her afloat since 2009 alone. Through various activities and your efforts over the years, World of Warships has donated $400,000 to battleship Texas. These contributions have been added to a fund of over $35 million for USS Texas to enter dry dock for extensive repairs and relocate her to a new home, where she will be more accessible to visitors. Preparations to make the journey to dry dock are now underway, and World of Warships is bringing you an inside peek into the process of maintaining a relic and reminding you why this ship is so important to all of us.
So, what has she been up to while awaiting her transport to dry dock?
Join us tomorrow on Instagram stories—the USS Texas team will answer your questions live from La Porte, Texas, where she is currently stationed.AMA starts: Thu. 23 Jul. 20:00 CEST (UTC+2)
Battleship Texas is the last remaining battleship to have participated in both World Wars. Commissioned on March 12, 1914, she was the most powerful weapon in the world at that time, and soon became the first U.S. battleship to have anti-aircraft guns mounted on her.
Today, battleship Texas is a floating museum that stands as a memory to the bravery and sacrifice of the servicemen who fought in both world wars. USS Texas is both a National Historic Landmark and a National Mechanical Engineering Landmark. Ensuring her future has been an ongoing, concerted effort between government agencies, volunteer groups, private businesses, and individuals who refuse to let time take this treasure from us.
