Are video games art? Best fan creations
Video games came a long way from simple arcade machines to complex works with budgets counted in millions $. They became a part of modern culture, making the way to people’s homes around the world. With broader audience than ever before, new game genres appeared; games depicts now more and more real life topics, offering entertainment for more mature public. Does it mean that video games are a state of art like movies or music?
You know what? It doesn’t matter. There are a lot of fighters of “games are art” movement, but in my humble opinion it’s irrelevant. That belief in art form of video games doesn’t change anything in the reception of this medium – the fun from playing would be the same and availability of this kind of amusement would be intact (there are no benefits from making games be more respected). Gamers gonna game, no matter what. Only one thing would do the trick here – calling games an art boosts ego of people that want their hobby to be viewed as important as others. Sure, there are games so beautifully crafted, with so enriching stories, games that consist high quality artsy assets – they could be considered as something equal to traditional art forms… but that doesn’t reform the game medium itself. The main feature of games is to bring joy to gamers. Games don’t need to be admired as art, they exist to be played.
Apart from that, respects should go to creators of games. The people behind our beloved titles surely have minds of artists. To sculpture a code of highly rated game may be as hard as making a script for a blockbuster movie (Transformers would be the expeption here ;) )! Kudos for them for their awesome work.
Fans of games get inspired in various ways. Some of them recreate their favourite heroes and sceneries, others mash-up ideas and remix existing works. They level up the games' ideas to the art form. Let's see one of the most staggering fanarts.
